Proctoring Overview

Certification exams consist of 40 multiple-choice questions taken from a 240-question bank. The questions used are selected at random for each certification exam.

Testers have 60 minutes to complete the exam.

After an exam has been initiated, the candidate must complete the exam in the same session unless he/she has an accommodation that states otherwise. Please allow sufficient time windows to ensure the exam is completed.

Only one certification candidate may be out of the testing room at a time, and they may not take or check their electronic devices during their break.

For optimal performance, it is recommended to take the exam on machines running the latest version of Chrome. A desktop computer that is plugged into a power source with a hard-wired internet connection works best. Ensure your computer is fully charged.

It is the proctor's responsibility to ensure that candidates access the certification exam using their unique Stukent CTE credentials.

The proctor should actively monitor to ensure the candidate has no questions or technical issues and to monitor the candidate’s internet use. During the exam, the only approved use of the internet is for the exam itself. Candidates are strictly prohibited from opening additional browsers or tabs.

The use of secondary electronic devices by the certification candidate, such as cell phones, tablets, headphones, any Bluetooth electronics, and desktop/laptop computers, is strictly prohibited other than for an accommodation or medical condition pre-approved by Stukent CTE. To prevent the use of these devices, the proctor should consider the following suggestions:

Place backpacks at the front of the room.

Place electronic devices such as cell phones and electronic watches on a separate desk, turned off, so they do not use internet or cellular service that testing computers may need.

If multiple students are testing in the same environment, seat students throughout the room rather than side-by-side.

Basic, handheld calculators are allowed.

Printouts, screenshots, and notes are strictly prohibited.

The proctor can provide support and technical instruction to certification candidates when needed (i.e., technology troubleshooting and exam procedures).

The proctor must be aware of any pre-approved accommodations for a certification candidate.

It is the responsibility of the proctor to ensure all certification candidates follow the certification exam rules and guidelines. If the proctor observes any behavior that violates the rules and policies, the proctor must take necessary actions to prevent further violations. If the proctor or the testing platform discovers cheating or irregularities, the certification candidate will be required to retake the exam under the observation of a different proctor.

When testing in an educational setting, district personnel may serve as proctors, provided they have read and agreed to the proctor rules and guidelines and meet local and state requirements for proctoring. Before proctoring a certification exam, the proctor must read and acknowledge the proctor agreement to ensure all rules and guidelines will be followed during the certification exam.

One retake is allotted per tester. If a candidate requests to retake a certification exam, it is left to the discretion of educational personnel to decide whether the candidate may retake the exam.

If a certification candidate does not follow the guidelines, the proctor must invalidate their certification exam by contacting support.cte@stukent.com.
